MARKE MEYER

"The human body, either in frenetic movement or caught at rest, remains

my only playground". MM

Marke Meyer is a sculptor, photographer and multimedia artist whose work can best be described as ‘visual poetry’. A poet at heart, he has exchanged pen and paper for space itself, using the human figure as a vehicle for metaphor, emotion and narrative.

Born in Kokstad and raised in the mountains of Lesotho, Marke initially pursued a career in horticulture, running his own wholesale nursery for eighteen years before committing fully to art. Throughout this time, he studied privately, with a particular focus on the figurative form.

Working across sculpture and photography, he constantly reinvents his practice through experimentation with materials, technology and form — from stainless steel and chroming to laser cutting and large-scale installations. His pioneering use of suspension introduces a sense of lightness, movement and freedom to his work.

“The figure… describes a state of mind — a mind-space perhaps.”

His work explores themes of identity, growth and possibility, often reflecting on the transition into adulthood and the quiet question of ‘what if’. Through this, he invites a deeper sense of introspection and self-awareness.
