ZIMBABWEAN STONE SCULPTURE

Contemporary Zimbabwean Stone Sculpture traces its origins to the 1950s, when Frank McEwen, the first Director of the Zimbabwe National Gallery, initiated an experimental art workshop. Struck by the raw energy and uninhibited expression of the artists, McEwen encouraged them to explore stone as a medium, while instilling a deep respect for artistic integrity and individual vision.

The results were extraordinary. What emerged was a powerful and original sculptural language that quickly captured international attention. Artists such as Takawira, Munyaradzi, Mukomberanwa and Mariga gained global recognition, exhibiting across Africa, Europe and North America.

From this moment, a remarkable new movement in modern sculpture was born. For over two decades, we have worked closely with leading Zimbabwean stone sculptors. By request, we are delighted to assist in sourcing exceptional pieces—whether you are seeking a specific artist, theme, or a sculpture that simply speaks to the heart
