BLESSING, THE CREATOR

Blessing B. Phiri is a multidisciplinary artist based in Hout Bay, South Africa. Originally from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, he relocated with his family to South Africa in 2008, where his artistic journey continued to evolve.

Working full time as a creative, Blessing moves fluidly between painting, photography, videography and graphic design. While he primarily works in acrylic, he often incorporates charcoal into his compositions, adding depth and tonal contrast to his visual narratives. His work has attracted both local and international collectors, with pieces held across South Africa and abroad.

Blessing’s passion for art began with drawing, deeply influenced by the expressive storytelling of Japanese manga. Without formal artistic opportunities during his school years, he developed his skills independently, guided by determination and curiosity.

A pivotal chapter in his growth came through Intle Art, a nonprofit organisation in Hout Bay that played a significant role in shaping both his artistic discipline and personal development. Today, he gives back by mentoring talented teenagers from Imizamo Yethu township, teaching art on weekends and nurturing emerging creative voices.

Beyond his studio practice, Blessing is involved in faith-based initiatives that use art and entertainment as platforms for dialogue and outreach. Through this work, he explores the intersection of creativity, belief and contemporary culture.
