DRUNK ON KOMBUCHA

is an abstract interpretation into a shamanic journey across the 3 worlds, lower, middle and upper, (the subconscious, conscious, and the superconscious) visible through the 3 horizontal layers crossing the canvas.

The piece holds abstract symbolism exploring elements such as the shadow self, (the black ‘splodge’ in the west, or to the left)  Our shadow, is typically known as the parts of our psyche we dislike, that which we try to avoid; hide from ( but ironically is often where our gifts and power lie).

Healing is represented by the red abstract snake in the South, within the subconscious of this work ( in truth this is where our healing and transformation ultimately begin). Transformation (represented by the abstract butterfly) and enlightenment, symbolically represented by the stitched and painted stars in the upper left quadrant (within the super conscious), or the highest region of the canvas and/or our self.

Art is said to be a reflection of aspects of ourselves, parts that may be unspoken or unacknowledged, this is said for both the artist and the audience, and it is how art heals.

Journey through the piece and allow yourself to investigate and explore. What do you think are the meanings of the other marks and scribbles within the piece? Where and how does the energy move for you?
