“The Beach” is an abstract expression of Cape Town’s iconic Atlantic coast’s beaches; in this instance inspired by Clifton and Camps Bay.

 

Whilst the bright yellow is symbolic of the African sunshine (see the ancient glyph for the sun, at the end of the sunbeam) it is also a colour iconically used for beach umbrella’s, set against the background of mottled white, sandy tones typical of the Cape’s beach sand.

 

Set amongst red life buoys, striped red beach towels, and deep blue water and icy sea spray, the Artist conveys the energy of a hot summers day at the beach using bold colour, broad and wild brushstrokes (wild like the Cape waters) with the joyful exuberance of a child at play with her paints and brushes.

 

Whilst spiritual practice is a powerful inspiration behind the Artist’s work she implores our souls to be free and have fun, for this is an equally important meditation as we traverse the human experience we call “Life.  

 

The Artist asks you to let go of the pursuit for ‘perfection’ celebrating the ‘imperfections’ and ‘errors’ of life, …with the drips, speckles, overly textured “paint outside the lines” kind of playfulness, that which our souls
